PRAX Studio was engaged to explore the possibilities for the refurbishment and repositioning of an existing commercial office tower. The existing tower is a local landmark, featuring bold geometry and striking blue coloured glass. Our approach was to open up and reshape the podium levels of the development in a way that was sensitive and complementary to the existing built form. The result is an entirely new architectural expression in which the new addition allows the old building to be appreciated in a new context: A curtain of undulating blue glass gently descends from the base of the existing tower, touching the ground lightly where enclosure is required and sweeping up dramatically to announce new points of arrival to an expansive new foyer.
