ORGANIC TOWERS

PRAX Studio has produced a concept design for a twin tower commercial development on a key CBD site. Inspired by the organic forms of local native flora and overlooking a significant public green space, the proposal comprises a pair of vertically proportioned forms, elegantly tapered towards their base to maximise the open landscaped ground plane. The exposed tower elevations feature shading for sun protection while dramatic multi-level wintergardens provide access to landscape, fresh air and a connection to the green ground plane.

One of the key strategies here was to maximise the size and efficiency of typical tower floorplates and these are proposed as typically square in plan with a central core and column-free spans. Towards the base of the building, where floorspace is typically less valuable, the square tower form tapers into a circular footprint in order to free up the ground plane for dedication as a public green space. The landscaped ground plane sweeps up towards the rear of the site to enclose loading and vehicular access and servicing. The building foyers feature multi-level voids and a delicate ribbed vault ceiling that complements the organic geometry of the landscape setting.
